One Step Closer . . .

Although to be fair, it is three steps.  Firstly, today was my last day at work before my vacation,  It is a little strange really as I have never been on a vacation this long - I will be away from work for over a month!  How will they all cope? - well, I know the answer to that - admirably!  They probably won't even realize that I am gone - oh, who am I kidding?  I have been wittering on about this trip for so long that I am sure a few of my colleagues are sighing huge sighs of relief!!

Secondly, it would appear that the workers at Vancouver airport are not going on strike.  Phew!  I know it was an outside chance of it actually being an issue on our trip, but do you remember the ash from the Icelandic volcano that caused flights to be cancelled in and out of the UK in 2010?  Well at that time my father was flying from Scotland to Canada - his flight was cancelled at zero notice and he had to drive over 200 miles, with his crazy Jack Russell, in a hire car and without GPS, to catch a flight from a different airport.  These things happen to us - so I am glad that the YVR issues are resolved.  For now!

And finally - I have some spending money.

How bright and cheery is this?  Perfect for a hot and sunny climate!  I think that some of these colors should be introduced into Canadian currency to give it a bit of pizzazz!  Interesting to note that these notes are also like the Canadian polymer notes, rather than paper, and have similar, clear windows in them.  The Old Folk reckons that Queenie looks a bit hard faced on the $5 bill - can't argue with that!

Four more sleeps to go.  Just saying . . . . .

Say It Ain't So . . . .

On the news this evening there was an article about workers at Vancouver airport (where we land on the first leg of our trip) reporting that they could be striking within the next 72hrs.  Seriously?  They have had all year, and they choose the time when we are going on our trip of a lifetime.  Argh!!!!!!!!

 Our collective fingers are crossed . . . .
